Brussels Museums Nocturnes

Unusual and lively, the Sewer Museum invites you for a special evening to inaugurate the season of Nocturnes!

Discover what goes on underneath your feet and explore the secrets of the Senne, Brussels’ hidden river. Meet our guides and storytellers, attend introductory workshops in aquaponics, tell us about your astonishing encounters with the rats or set off on an exciting walk around the various trades and challenges involving water in Brussels.

‘Er-ratic stories’ behind the scenes: The sewer rat lives in the bowels of the city. Emerging from the rubbish bin, in your cellar, running along the edges of the canal – you can sometimes catch a glimpse of one where you least expect it. Take part in our collection of testimonials about this species, not particularly well liked but exceptionally adapted to the environment of our city. Tell us about your strange encounter with a rat and send us your photos!
Aquaponics workshop: What on earth is aquaponics? It’s the creation of a 100% natural ecosystem, where water circulates in a closed circuit. Aquaponics combines aquaculture, which is breeding fish, and hydroponics, which refers to growing vegetables without soil or earth.
Discovery Workshop of the Senne’s aquatic fauna: Are you curious? This workshop is made for you! Try to identify the small animals of our river. With a magnifying glass, binoculars or a guide, set off in search of these well hidden little creatures.
